Much is taught in astrology about aspects.  Rarely are they described as mile markers and checkpoints  within a cycle.  Steve will discuss aspects from this perspective.

Aspects are signs of progress within cycles. Each cycle begins (at the conjunction) with seed intentions of new growth.  The movement from seed to fruition has predictable stages, much like the stages of human development, from birth to old age.  Learning  to read the timing of cycles in advance gives us a tool to prepare for what will inevitably be coming.

2012 is a key year in the very important Pluto – Uranus cycle.  Its intention is to break up long established patterns, on every level.  Steve will use this cycle as an example and frame of reference during his talk.

Pluto’s return to its placement in Capricorn for the first time since 1776, the first American Revolution, signals the coming second American Revolution in 2021. In this decade as Pluto opposes the United States Cancer stellium, America has entered its most transformational period since its establishment. The current Uranus/Pluto square, Saturn return, Pluto opposition and other significant aspects reveal the crisis and opportunity America faces. The differences between the western and vedic astrology systems are like the differences between English and Sanskrit. Once you understand the basic concepts of astrology in one system, (planets, signs, and houses,) learning the other system is a matter of becoming familiar with its lilt, its gait, its different “syntax,” but most of all, its stories.

This talk will give a brief introduction to two of the the more fun, simple, and immediately useful elements of vedic astrology: Dashas (the planetary seasons); and Nakshatras (the lunar signs, rich in stories).

Bring your own tropical chart with degree placements for the planets, as we’ll be calculating the sidereal placement of your moon in order to determine your “birth star” – (the nakshatra of your moon.) You’ll come away with a fresh, new story to contemplate about your moon.

Natal aspects between the outer or transpersonal planets; Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, and the inner planets can reveal our connection to guidance that is always being received from the intuitive mind. Horoscopes containing many aspects between the “trans-personal” planets and the personal planets often indicate a deep attunement to collective wisdom. At the same time, the person with these aspects may feel overwhelmed by the intuitive information they are constantly receiving. By understanding the various ways that we receive intuitive information we can begin to utilize this information in a positive and productive way.

Unfortunately, much of the information that is available on these aspects emphasizes the disruptive rather than the transformative energies of these interactions. In tonight’s talk James will give a new interpretation of these aspects from both a psychological and spiritual perspective. Drawing from his twenty-five years experience as a counseling astrologer, James will give practical guidance for astrologers and astrological students wishing to work on a deeper level with their clients or with their own charts. There is much more information in astrological charts than people are aware of; this information can be revealed by the simple technique of chart magnification. Using this method, charts that you think you know well will reveal hidden strengths and power. This lecture will illustrate the basics behind this technique; and then, since the best way to learn about chart magnification is to look at many charts, we will look at numerous example charts of well-known people from all areas of life, both famous and infamous, from Adolf Hitler to Kim Kardashian, from Thomas Jefferson to Courtney Love, from Albert Schweitzer to Eleanor Roosevelt. Using these charts Doug will illustrate how this technique is used.

This technique is available on most astrological software; it is so simple one can even calculate chart magnifications with a pocket calculator; but Doug will give a web site in his lecture that will do it all for you.

Doug Kellogg is one of the founding members of Astrology in Ashland. In 1979, he wrote the first encyclopedic astrology programs for the emerging personal computer market, first sold by Quicksilver Productions and then by Astrolabe. He currently writes and supports astrology programs for the Apple iPhone. He has taught astrology at Southern Oregon College. His current research is in the field of astrology of history. We freely discuss midpoints, solar arcs, and tertiary progressions, but rarely acknowledge the importance of intuition, imagination and the ability to think like a mystic.
